The Houghton house of Nelson Mandela lies in the area that suffered through long-stretched power shortages on Thursday. Mandela was recently discharged from hospital after remaining under critical observation for over two months.

On Thursday, most of the Johannesburg and its suburbs faced power shortages after City Power workers downed tools to protest against a new shift system. City Power claims that it can take up to three days to fully resolve the problem.

“We are currently experiencing power outages as a result of the strike. We have not been able to timeously attend to calls, resulting in a service backlog in these areas.

“We are doing our best to restore power in the affected areas with the assistance of contractors. Nevertheless, we expect that full restoration is likely to take two to three days,” the statement from City Power read.

Two generators could be seen operating at the house of Nobel Prize winner Nelson Mandela. Doctors have reconfigured his home to ensure he receives the required medical care. Some staff from the hospital has also been appointed to take care of Mandela at his home.

According to the most recent official statement from the office of President Zuma, Mandela remains critical and stable, but at times unstable. He is suffering through multiple diseases and his health is fragile due to the old age factor. Mandela has received prayers and messages from all around the world.
