Ms Hilde was warmly welcomed by the state governor Paul Malong Awan including cabinet, community elders, church leaders, and heads of civil societies.

“This is my second visit to NBGS and next week I will be visiting other states as
well,” she told the press in Aweil.

She said the importance of the mission is to engage with the governor and his cabinet and other stakeholders such as legislature and civil societies.

She discloses that the visit is also intended by UNMISS to listen, learn and to understand what achievements have been made so far by the state governments in regard to peace process within the new nation.

On technical aspects of further developmental and peaceful coexistence within the region and abroad, Hilde assured the public of UNMISS’ keenness to support peace and unity among the local communities in the state as well as bordering communities of Sudan.

Moreover, SRSG appreciates the efforts of peace played by the governor and persuades the public to join hands in building strong peaceful nation.

“We all know that NBGS is the most peaceful state in South Sudan, but we know that this did not come from nothing but from the roles played by the governor and his people in maintaining peace within and with their neighbours,” she said.

The SRSG is expected to meet with the legislators, the civil societies, religious leaders and the INGOs/NNGOs.

It is not clear whether the SRSG visit to the state also includes pending Comprehensive Peace Agreement [CPA] issues between the Sudan and South Sudan.

According the SRSG, another agenda topping her visit is preparation for the peaceful migration Northern Bahr el Ghazal State’s bordering Sudanese tribes of Misseriyia and Rezeigat whose seasonal migration to South Sudan for pastures and water is pre-agreed in advanced before their official permission to the country.
