On Thursday the women marched on the streets in Aweil Town as they urged parents to revive care for their children who live on streets in the state.

“We are here today to share with you our studies of the general situation of the street children and how we came up with idea of helping them out of this big dilemma as mothers,” the Association’s Representative Elizabeth Nyanut Angok said while addressing the participants at Aweil Freedom Square.

“We would like everybody to join us in rescuing them and that’s through contributing little amount of money one has at hand.”

Nyanut told the audience that the culture of family caring is disappearing which needs a lot to be done to avert the situation. She says the Association through the support of the community members, state and national governments, urges well-wishers to generously contribute to their cause.

The Association leader is hopeful they will do wonders to the street children in the next couples of months should there be enough funds for their activities.

The Association made up of about 200 women was formed in October after a meeting in September 2013 with technical and financial support from Ajok Wol Atak, a wife of the State Governor.

The women came up with the idea of fundraising to help children without responsible parents to cater for them at home.

Over 2000 street children are said to be wondering about on the streets of Aweil Town and the Association intends to shelter and educate them.

The State Governor Paul Malong, his cabinet, visiting guests from the national government and the state residents attended the fundraising exercise.  It is not disclosed how much was raised by press time.
