The disruption came after the national staff working for the telecommunications company downed their tools claiming that their demands were not met by the company’s administration in Juba.

Network customers who spoke to the media including a resident Martin John extended their anger over lack of communication services.

However, the company’s Managing Director, Jago Adongjak in Juba said the Ministry of Labour is currently discussing with representatives of the striking staff to address their concerns which include demands for salary augmentation and payment of allowances.

Staff in Wau refused to open their customer office and shut down the antenna satellite dish used for supplying network connection.

Vivacell company employees in September resumed normal duties following a strike when their demands were met.

The network which was opened in February 2009 promised provision of the best services at the best rates and through the implementation of the state-of-the-art network.

Vivacell network closure come under criticism in Wau on Monday when its users went without connection.

Vivacell was expected to compete with the other existing mobile networks, while residents were optimistic that Vivacell will do well as it enters the market with very attractive rates and better services.

Vivacell is one of four GSM mobile network operators licensed to operate in South Sudan but was the first to be headquartered inside South Sudan.

During the course of 2009, the network promised to extend its coverage footprint to all of the 10 States in the country.
