He said only 6% of the country’s entire population know their HIV/AIDS status, saying the statistics depict high rate of ignorance on the scourge.

“There is a greater need to jointly mobilize resources” to fight the disease, Gai said adding that “unless we collectively strengthen our efforts to address HIV/AIDS, it will continue to remain a big threat in South Sudan.”

“More research should clearly be taken in an effort to deduce for more measures to fight HIVAIDS,” said the Minister.

He encouraged South Sudanese to test so as to know their status, saying it’s a healthiest way of preventing the virus, HIV.

On Monday South Sudan joined the world in marking the World’s Aids Day under the theme: “zero HIV/AIDS infection, zero discrimination, and zero AIDS related deaths.”

The Chairperson of the South Sudan Anti Aids Commission (SSAAC), Esterina Novello said then there has been a notable reduction in the prevalence of the scourge but warned more efforts are still needed.
