Igga was speaking on Wednesday at a memorial service organised by the government of South Sudan and the South African Embassy in Juba in honor of Mandela in Freedom Hall.
“Madiba is a global son. He is an icon and an inspiration not only to Africa, but to the entire world,” Igga described the legendary leader during the memorial service.
He expressed South Sudan’s heartfelt condolence to the family of the late Mandela, the government and people of South Africa.
Igga said the departure of Mandela should remind all people of forgiveness, love, dialogue and reconciliation.
Cleland Leshore, the Kenyan Ambassador to South Sudan who spoke on behalf of the Diplomatic Corps during the memorial service also described the former South African President as a hero, saying the world has lost an “icon”.
Several senior South Sudanese government officials, diplomatic corps, religious leaders and other dignitaries on Wednesday converged at Freedom Hall for a memorial service for late Mandela.
Mandela also known as Madiba passed on last Thursday in his home country, South Africa.
On Tuesday, hundreds of world leaders including US President Barak Obama and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon attended Mandela’s memorial service.
