In a special way, I would like to sincerely thank all commands of the state organized forces such as Police, wildlife, prison, civil defence including SPLA for having demonstrated a true spirit of nationalism to ensure security of human beings and properties,” said Louis Lobong Lojore, the State Governor of EES as he opened the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

He said had it not for the efforts of the prepared organized forces and the state citizens, his state would have entered into a similar chaos.

He also thanked the state leaders especially Members of Parliament (MPs), the faith based organizations and the entire people of EES for their role in advocating peace and stability.

“I have the pleasure to thank you honorable Members and the people of this great historic state for the tireless efforts to avert the spread of conflict to EES,” he said.

“My special gratitude also goes to our dear development partners such as UN Agencies headed by UNMISS coordinator for truly showing commitment to stand with us during this crisis.”

Hon. Lobong said the state for many years prior to independence of South Sudan experienced and suffered brutal civil wars, tragic loss of precious lives, destruction of properties and displacement of many vulnerable citizens for years.

The governor blamed the coup attempt and its resultant challenges to a group of “disgruntled”, people led by Riek Machar. He said Machar is fighting a baseless war which he is “trying to impose on the people of this great young nation.”

He said what started in Juba on 15 December 2013 was a real surprise to all the peace loving people of South Sudan.

Thousands have been killed, others displaced and the humanitarian crisis in the country has been exacerbated by the conflict putting the lives of at least 3.2m people at risk due to severe food shortage according to UN.
