Mr. Boboya James Edmond, a Scholar in International DevelopmentManagement, Governance and Social Policy, says that the media should focus more on development instead of killings and NGO operations in the country.

“These are all news but time has come where we need to call on all the journalists to also focus on what thesouth Sudanese are doing locally. There are a lot of good things happening in local communities almost daily. In Yei, for example, farmers are working hard to revitalize the coffee crop and even start selling produce and/or products to the international market. The media’s role here is needed to promote these progressive ventures as they venture and will contribute to the local development.”

“This is an initiative that does not require a gun. In Awiel, for instance, local farmers are producing significant number of water melons which for many people in Juba think that the locally available produced watermelons have only been imported from neighboring countries like Uganda.”

Edmond James stressed that the media should cover stories particularly on how the local government is fairing on.
