Three Ethiopians in Bor, Jonglei State were rushed to hospital on Wednesday after an unknown person threw a hand grenade at a supermarket located at Bor Market, which exploded right where the Ethiopians were seated.

JUBA, February 12 [Gurtong] – Police Commissioner, Major General Thukul Ayom said the Ethiopians were at the market passed the closing hours when the incident took place.

“The shops close at nine, but these Ethiopians, delayed until 10pm. They came out from their super market and sat outside. So somebody just came with a hand grenade and threw it at them,” Maj. Gen. Thukul Ayom said.

Bor’s County Commissioner Mamer Ruuk who was at the Bor civil Hospital to pay a visit to the victims said, “Those Ethiopians are now in the hospital. This morning I visited them and they are okay but one of them sustained severe injuries.”

Commissioner Ruuk said that police will now be deployed within the market to ensure the safety of people.

He condemned the incident and urged the people to live peacefully with foreigners in the country.

“As a commissioner of Bor County I am condemning the incident. We cannot survive in South Sudan without foreigners. During the struggle we were getting support from the Ethiopian government and up to now they are still supporting us.”

Last year, hundreds of Ugandan businessmen residing in Jonglei State capital called upon the state government to enhance security in the capital.

A demonstration was held following the killing of three Ugandans by a man alleged to have dressed in police uniform.
