china flag_pole_200_hteaseKoichiro Genba, Japan’s new foreign minister stated on Monday that the international community should persuade China to follow global rules and not use its power to become a threat to others in the region. The foreign minister stated that China’s extensive spending over its military and defense coupled with its rigid stance in territorial disputes is of utmost caution for the international community, and not only Japan.

The animosity between the two rivals was heated up a year ago when a Chinese Fishing trawler crashed against a Japanese patrol vessel. While Genba agreed that Japan’s southwestern waters were not as calm as before, both countries had a heated political brawl over it.

Beijing agrees that it has shown its assertiveness in territorial region coupled with extensive spending on their military but claim that this is by no means intended to threat any of the neighboring countries. In fact, they have termed this speculation as a sign of “Cold War Thinking”.

While the newly admitted foreign minister has pledged to achieve a favorable situation for both the rival neighbors, Japan would still be maintaining its security alliance with the U.S.

Genba has also stated that Japan should not completely withdraw its nuclear technology and neither should exports of nuclear plants be curtailed. He has stressed on conservation of the environment and export of technology. However, he has also stressed that nuclear deals with other countries namely Vietnam, Turkey and Jordan must be reviewed carefully.
