Supreme Court issues notice on Satyam officials’ bail appeal

In New Delhi, on Friday, the Supreme Court issued notice to the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) on a bail plea by four officials of the former Satyam Computers Ltd who were accused of India’s biggest corporate frauds.

Dalveer Bhandari and A K Patnaik, the bench of Justices, ordered the CBI to submit its reply within two weeks on the bail appeals of the company’s former employees D Venkatpathi Raju, G Ramakrishna, Ch Srisailam and Satyam’s former internal chief auditor,V S Prabhakar Gupta.

The accused people appealed to the supreme court against the 30th August order of Andhra Pradesh High Court which rejected their bail pleas.

Judicial custody is still active for Ramalinga Raju and his brother and former M D B Rama Raju as these people were the prime accused.

On the other side, in Hyderabad, Chanchalguda Central Prison is still housing other accused. They are Mr Rama Raju, Mr Raju, and the four Satyam employees, Vadlamani Srinivas who is the firm’s former Chief Financial Officer and former Price Water House Coopers (PWC) auditor Subramani Gopalakrishnan.

The previous chairman and founder of Satyam Computer Ltd, Mr Raju had surrendered on 10th November previous year before a Hyderabad court which justified the nation’s biggest corporate fraud, allegedly to the amount of Rs. 14,000 crore.

B Suryanarayana Raju is only accused who has been granted bail in the fraud investigation.
