image185368gAfter the announcement of the $5.85 Billion deal between United States and Taiwan, Chinese authorities said that the deal would dent U.S-China military ties. The arms deal has infuriated the Chinese authorities and the Chinese defense ministry claimed that “Beijing would retaliate after this deal”

Defense Ministry spokesperson Geng Yansheng told the reporters that high scale activities, joint operations and Top Level exchanges would be deeply damaged “in light of the serious damage” resulting from the sale.

United States is under legislation bound since 1979 to provide weapons for self defense to Taiwan. However China is showing utter mistrust in such dealings and disregarding the U.S stance that this is part of confidence building measures.

The Vice president of China Xi Jinping is due to visit Washington in the near future, however the final dates and itinerary of his trip are yet to be finalized.

The officials of United States said high level diplomats from china had earlier made it clear to them that if the deal goes through they will postpone or cancel military ties with the United States

“Mullen gave explanations for the U.S. arms sale, while Chen expressed China’s solemn stance on the issue,” Defense Ministry spokesman Geng Yansheng said.
