The Supreme Court made its statement on Thursday asking the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to produce a report on the status of the 2G spectrum scam to CVC.
Upon examining the submitted report, Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) will review and submit another sealed report produced on reference to the report by CBI and submit to the Supreme Court.
The court demanded the report on plea of a Special Investigation Team to be transformed to assist and cut down on time lags to come down to a conclusion. The bench of judges mutually decided to ask CBI to submit report to CVC which will assist the court instead of a Special Investigation Team.
The bench of judges which includes A K Ganguly and G S Singhvi most prominently cancelled 122 2G spectrum licenses on the basis that they were issues in a completely “arbitrary and unconstitutional manner.”
Upon the court’s decision, Pardeep Kumar, CVC Commissioner refrained from commenting on the situation saying it was too early to make comments and draw inferences. He stated, “We will have to study the judgment, what Supreme Court has ordered. The commission will study the judgment and give its response.”
The judges left it to the trial court to make a decision on the demand for inquiry of the so-called participation of P Chidambaram, Home Minister, in the case.
