Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaaf chief, Imran Khan and the leader of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz gave their statements in the afternoon today encouraging the Prime Minister of Pakistan to resign.

The opposition party leaders gave out strong statements after the hearing of PM Gilani at the Supreme Court. Imran Khan said that Gilani must step down immediately if he cannot obey the orders given by the Supreme Court. The PM did not plead guilty in front of the court today. He is now facing the contempt of court allegation for not writing the letter to Swiss authorities as requested by the SC in regards to the money laundering cases filed against the President of Pakistan, Mr Asif Ali Zardari.

Indicating towards the millions of dollars stacked away in Swiss bank accounts, Nawaz Sharif said, “What is the harm in writing a letter to the Swiss government? This money is the people’s money and should be brought back. It’s only if this letter is written that the money can be returned. Why is the government scared of writing this letter?”

Imran Khan further highlighted, “PM Gilani must step down immediately. Both President Zardari and Gilani are corrupt. The problem in Pakistan is that there is no democracy here. There is no genuine opposition in Pakistan.”

Aitzaz Ahsen informed the SC that the PM cannot come to the court before 17th February, 2012 due to his prior commitments. The court finalized the next hearing date to be 22nd February, 2012.
