Senator Teofisto Guingona III has denied that he offered the ex-Chief Justice any proposal regarding term-sharing with Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio. Guingona agreed that he had invited the ex-CJ to his house for dinner back in 2011 but he refused any discussion regarding Corona’s accusation taking place at any time in point of his visit.

The former Chief Justice Renato Corona spoke to one of the radio channels informing that he was asked by one of the allies of President Benigno Aquino III, Senator Teofisto Guingona III to resign prior to the time of his regime as Chief Justice and allow SCAJ Antonio Carpio to share the term with him.

Senator Guingona denied the allegations put on him by the former CJ and said that not only what Corona was saying was incorrect but he is also violating law by taking to third parties while his trial is in process at the SC. He said Corona is violating the sub-judice rule by giving interviews to parties not concerned with the case.

Sen. Guingona denied allegations put on him by Corona in a television interview saying, “We did have lunch with the Chief Justice on July 22, 2011, but it was a purely social event and nothing of that sort [discussion about a possible term-sharing with Carpio] ever came out. His statement was totally untrue and baseless”.
