The internal security meeting taking place in New Delhi on Monday has once again highlighted the conflict of the state governments with the center as chief ministers gang up on the center to get their demands fulfilled.

During the session, the Union government was highly criticized for overstepping and meddling with the internal matters of the state governments. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalitha and a few other ministers openly attacked the members of the central government and accused them of interfering with the decision of the state governments. She registered her complaints regarding the reduction on spending on police departments and victimized the operations of National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC) for giving boost to authorities to stand parallel to the power of state governments.

She said, “Constant attempts to reduce states to the level of glorified municipal corporation heavily dependent on the Centre for funds. Trying to intimidate and browbeat states through top-down structure when the police is a state subject is not acceptable. All IPS officials come through the UPSC and receive identical training at the police academy whether they go to the IB, CBI or the state. The RPF Act, the NCTC are all attempts to encroach on state powers by establishing parallel authorities.”

Siding with the points raised by CM Tamil Nadu, Modi also commented that the doings of NCTC are creating conflicts within the country at the federal and state government level.
