Ferdie causes major roads of MManila at standstill

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Ferdie compounded with a low-pressure area at the West Philippine Sea and after crossing Northern Luzon and increasing the southwest monsoon that deserted rain on Metro Manila, Tropical Depression Ferdie crossed the Balintang Channel in Northern Philippines and might egress Philippine territory by Saturday evening.

Gener Quitlong, the PAGASA forecaster said in an interview, “Pag merge nila palabas sila going to Hong Kong. Baka lumabas si ‘Ferdie’ mamayang gabi,”
It was said by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) that floods in some roads in the metropolis have already reached knee-high levels, making it difficult for the light vehicles to pass. It also said some areas in Makati City were submerged in knee-deep flood such as Medina Dela Rosa, Barangay Sta.Cruz and Montojo Street were not passable to light vehicles.

They also included area like Chino Roces and Kalayaan; Taylo and Medina in Brgy. Pio del Pilar; and Dela Rosa from Chino Roces to South Superhighway while gutter-deep floods at Washington-Buendia and at Edsa-Estrella southbound loading bay.

Floods of about 12 inches were also experienced in Barangay San Antonio in Makati City, particularly in Mayapis, Malugay, Sampaloc, Kamagong, Kaong corner Lumbayao, Santol and St. Paul sts.

It was reported that in Quezon City gutter-deep floods in parts of Aurora Boulevard were experienced and also noted poor to zero visibility at Aurora Boulevard, with some motorists turning on their flashers.

At  10 a.m., PAGASA said Ferdie was estimated at 130 km northwest of Laoag City, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and moving west at 15 kph.
At 11 a.m. PAGASA’s advisory indicated only three areas were still under Storm Signal NO. 1 – Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Abra.
