Former private investigator P. Balasubramaniam died of heart attack at the age of 53. He recently returned to Malaysia after several years of self-exile. Bala will be cremated in Cheras this afternoon.

According to Subang MP R. Sivarasa, Bala’s body has been released to the family late last night. Post-mortem report by the Sungai Buloh hospital declares the cause of death to be a massive heart attack. Bala’s last rites would be held at his home in Rawang at 1pm, followed by the cremation in Cheras.

“I helped out yesterday at Sg Blh Hospital (it’s within Subang constituency anyway) out of a sense of duty to help Bala’s family after all his and their sacrifice,” said Sivarasa.

Doctors had diagnose Bala with a heart condition and recommended him a surgery after three of his arteries were found to be clogged. He was to undergo a surgery in three weeks.

“Doctors discovered he had three blockages,” Sivarasa said, adding that Bala was discharged on Tuesday. “He was supposed to go for a bypass in three weeks but it was not to be.”

Bala has left behind a wife, Santamil Selvi, 46, son Kishen, 16, another son Rishi, 11, and daughter Meenaga, 15. On his return to Malaysia, Bala showed interest in the pre-election campaigns and offered to support Pakatan Rakyat (PR) ahead of Election 2013. Balasubramaniam was a key figure in a scandal linking Malaysian premier Najib Razak with a Mongolian woman’s murder and alleged kickbacks in a 2002 submarine deal.
