Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, convicted for possession of illegal weaponry, agrees to surrender within time. Sanjay has been convicted under the Arms Act for his role in the 1993 Mumbai bombings. He said on Thursday that he would not seek pardon.
Sanjay spoke to the media for the first time since the Supreme Court ruling last week and requested not to infringe his privacy.
“…When I am not going for pardon, there is no debate. This a very, very tough time… Just let me be in peace till I go in,” he pleaded.
Sanjay said he will complete his work commitments before turning himself in. He will be back on the sets on Thursday to shoot for T P Agarwal’s ‘Policegiri’ at Kamalistan. Some other projects including Raju Hirani’s ‘PK’, Karan Johar’s ‘Unglee’ and Apoorva Lakhia’s remake of ‘Zanjeer’ are also in the pipeline. His sister and Congress MP Priya Dutt was standing next to him while he talked to the journalists.
“Right now, I am a shattered man, my family is shattered. I love my country, I love the citizens of my country and I love India,” he added.
Jaya Bachchan, Member of Parliament and veteran actor, plans on requesting the Maharashtra governor, K Sankarnarayanan, to pardon Sanjay since he is a changed man now.
“I agree with everyone that he has suffered a lot. I believe that he should not be given such a big punishment. He is a changed man now. I’m going to personally appeal governor and ask him to pardon him,” said Mrs Bachchan.
