Islamabad High Court has urged the authorities to register FIRs against officials who helped Pervez Musharraf escape after the court ordered his arrest. On Tuesday, Interior Secretary, Javed Iqbal informed the court that action against Islamabad IG could only be taken with the approval of the prime minister.

In response to the explanation, IHC Justice Shaukat Aziz said that the court order should immediately be executed and no secretary or prime minister has the right to review the court order. Javed Iqbal notified the court that the matter has been referred to the law ministry for opinion. IHC articulated concern over the sluggish progress. The court adjourned the hearing of Pervez Musharraf escape case and directed to take action against the Islamabad IG police.

Moreover, a petition seeking registration of a murder case against Musharraf for ordering ‘Operation Silence’ against Lal Masjid was moved in the Islamabad High Court on Monday. Haroon Rashid has contended in his petition that his father namely Ghazi Abdul Rashid and grandmother Sahiba were killed in the military operation ordered by then president Musharraf.

“Now from the report of Commission formed on the orders of the Supreme Court, it is disclosed that the so-called military operation was carried out on the orders of Musharraf… In view of the evidence mentioned above the legal heirs of the innocent victims had been filing applications time and again and requesting to register criminal cases against the responsible persons but their requests were not acceded to,” he maintained.
