In the wake of unexpected sanctions imposed by Taiwan, the Philippines labor department has launched an online program where Filipinos seeking overseas employment are encouraged to register. The platform was launched after Taiwan announced to invalidate work permits of Filipinos applicants effective May 15.

“If you are looking for overseas employment, let the online registration of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) be your first step. The registration is free and easy. It is accessible anywhere and anytime,” said Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz.

The authority has also announced a set of instructions for Filipino applicants. Those who have registered on POEA’s online system are advised to access their account every month. The account will be inactivated if an applicant does not access it for six consecutive months.

Baldoz urged Filipinos seeking overseas employment to register at www.eregister.poea.gov.ph where they will be asked to enter personal data, information on job and country preference, education, languages spoken, skills, and work experience.

In the meanwhile, Philippine investigators are investigating the fatal shooting of a Taiwanese fisherman by its Coast Guard last week. Evidence was handed to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

“Our actions will be based on evidence solely, so whatever the evidence will show us, if we have to charge some people, we will charge criminal offence, we will do that,” NBI director Nonnatus Rojas said.
