Keeping the tradition alive, incoming government has already begun to blame the previous government for causing most of the problems faced at both provincial and national level. Punjab Chief Minister-designate Mian Shahbaz Sharif articulated that the PPP-led federal government intentionally created hurdles to enhance power shortage in Punjab.

Mr Shahbaz said Thursday that the previous central government created problems for bagasse power project, Nandhipur and Cheechon Ki Malian power projects to deprive the province from substantial development. Had the projects been completed today, he claimed, one-third of power crisis could have been tackled.

“Energy crisis in Pakistan is the result of corrupt practices of ruling politicians and mismanagement and ill will of bureaucracy. We have finalized a comprehensive strategy to overcome power crisis. But huge sum of money along with austerity measures on part of rulers, public representatives, government employees and common man are needed to achieve these goals,” he said.

Mr Shahbaz will become the Chief Minister of Punjab for a second consecutive term. Talking to his party members in London, he said the PML-N is determined to strengthen the economy by inviting overseas Pakistanis to play a vital role in this regard.

“Since foreign investment amid load shedding and terrorism is unenviable, we have started working on a policy to curb these menaces even before coming to power… We will turn the institutions into profitable units by appointing competent heads after floating vacancy advertisements in the media. Such an initiative will introduce new culture of transparency and merit,” he added.
