Anti-terrorism court on Monday rejected the petition filed by Pervez Musharraf in an attempt to seek exemption from appearing in person in Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti murder case. The court remained firm and reiterated its previous orders of presenting Musharraf and others accused in the case before court.

The hearing took place at Balochistan’s capital city, Quetta. The counsel for Musharraf Zeeshan Cheema and Jamil Akber Bugti’s lawyer Sohail Rajput appeared before the court while the investigation team briefed the court about its progress.

The court learned that other accused ex-PM Shaukat Azia, former governor Balochistan Owais Ahmed Ghani and the former DCO Dera Bugti Abdul Samad Lasi were not in the country. In order to gear up the process, the court ordered to complete all the legal requirements for their arrest. The court later adjourned the hearing till September 30.

While talking to the media, Sohail Rajput stressed on the government’s lack of interest in resolving the case. He said the government is not showing seriousness to bring the accused of Bugti’s murderers to justice.

“New application in every hearing is not understandable to us; we have informed the court about our reservations on absence of Aftab Sherpao due to his activities for all parties’ conference in Islamabad… We believe that law is equal for all, no one is above the law,” said Rajput.
