The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Tassaduq Hussain Gilani, has taken suo moto notice of the mass graves near Khuzdar and has also summoned General Police Inspector Balochistan and the Deputy Commissioner of Khuzdar on the 4th of February. Authorities have formed a judicial commission to investigate a mass grave which contains at least thirteen bodies in the restive province of Balochistan.

The Khuzdar mass graves include three dead bodies which have been identified. These three people are part of the list of missing persons. Nasrullah Baloch, who is the Chairman of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), informed that according to the Deputy Commissoner, a total of twenty five bodies have been recovered and more bodies are expected to be found. The graves were discovered last Saturday by a local shepherd who informed the administration. The local residents became suspicious after vultures and crows started hovering in the area above the graves.

According to the Balochistans Interior Minister, a report would be handed over to the Balochistan High Court and the Supreme Court in a month’s time after conducting a detailed investigation of the mass graves. Many rights groups have accused security agencies and the military of killing nationalists and dumping their bodies all over the province of Balochistan. Over the last few years, more than hundreds of bodies have been found with bullet marks or obvious marks of torture. Both the military and the security agencies denied these accusations.
