The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson, Imran Khan will not formally be a part of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) peace talks, the party’s core committee decided. The statement was released by PTI this Monday. Though Imran Khan refused to accept the role, Rustam Shah Mohmand  will take the position of representing PTI in the committee formed by the Pakistani government.

Even though Imran Khan won’t be taking an active part in the peace talks, it was announced by PTI that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) government will provide full cooperation in carrying out the talks peacefully. The TTP had proposed names of senior political and religious leaders for a committee to pass on messages and to converse on the behalf of the Taliban with the federal government. Imran khan distanced himself from the peace talks but said he had complete faith in the four member committee made by the government to initiate peace talks. According to the PTI Chairperson, the TTP should select their own representatives to communicate with the government.

According to telephonic conversation between the TTP representative, Maulana Samiul Haq and government representative, Irfan Siddique, the peace talks will take place on Tuesday. ‘We want to have an open dialogue with the Taliban committee,’ said Irfan Siddique. President Mamnoon Hussain has expressed the hope that the peace talks start as soon as possible so that the entire country continues to have lasting peace and security. Only meaningful and successful talks can ensure a positive result said the President.
