Once again Barara will witness the burning of the world’s tallest Ravana effigy

After setting a record of burning the world’s tallest effigy of Ravana last year in 2009, Sri Ramlila Club of Barara (a town in Ambala district in India) has once again announced to repeat the feat.

The founder President of the Club, & Director of this world class project Rana Tejinder Singh Chauhan informed that like every year, In India, Haryana’s best Ramlila will be organised in Barara from October 4 to 17. After that on 17th October at the day of Vijayadashmi, the world’s biggest Ravana effigy will be burnt again this year too. He claimed that 35 quintals of bamboo is used in construction of this effigy. This time the height of effigy is expected to surpass the last year’s record of 175 feet. He told that more than 5 lakh rupees have been spent on making this effigy. For its construction, like every year Muslim workers from Agra have been called in.

Rana told that like every year, the height of this year’s burning of effigy will also symbolise the ‘burning’ of increasing danger of terrorism, female foeticide, communalism, casteism, increasing population, illiteracy, corruption and dowry. The tradition of organising Ramlila in Barara was started since 1986. At that time, the effigy was just only 20 feet tall. But with the support and encouragement of the Club members, friends and the people of Barara, he managed to set this world record. Chauhan is hopeful that his Ravana will get place in Guiness Book of World Records. Rana believes that this record will bring Barara on the world stage. He has called for cooperation of the people of Barara and Ambala in this ambitious project.
