The Federal Interior Minister of Pakistan, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said this Thursday that the government had no objection if Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) was inclined towards holding a peaceful protest in Islamabad on the 11th of this May, 2014.
The minister expressed these views in the National Assembly today. “We must review the way we protest. The government has no objection if protest is held in a democrat, political and peaceful manner,” Nisar informed the house. He further added that the Islamabad administration would completely cooperate with the PTI leadership. He also agreed towards providing police protection during the rally. Nisar also laid down a few conditions for PTI protesters, which included, no use of firearms, fireworks or any kind of harmful weapons, including sticks. “Use of firearms or any harmful weapon will not be permitted. If any vehicle is transporting a weapon, it will be seized and will not be allowed to pass through,” Nisar said.
Use of containers will not be allowed, except for those provided by the government. No infants are allowed. “It’s not fair for children to be dragged to these protests in this heat,” the interior minister said. The tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, has announced a rally at Islamabad’s D.Chowk on May 11 against what he called ‘theft of public mandate.’ He has stated that a government that stole the mandate can never work efficiently to remove the problems of the public.
