One Australian and an Indonesian citizen have been pronounced dead after a small plane crash which took place in a village in the region of East Kalimantan, Indonesia on Thursday.
The Australian individual loosing life has been identified as Ian Douglas who was accompanied by the Indonesian pilot Jonathan Wills in the small plane. Both have been declared dead by the authorities. According to the initial investigation survey, the authorities have mentioned that Mr. Douglas, a mining photographer, was on a small plane which he had hired to carry out a mining survey. It was a Susi Pilatus PC-6 aircraft which was carrying only two individuals.
The director of the airline’s operations Christian Strombeck spoke to the media and said, “The pilot was South African and the photographer was Australian. Both were killed. The plane crashed Wednesday at around 5.30 pm local time [9.30pm AEST], and the bodies were found at around 1.30am Thursday. The Pilatus PC-6 aircraft was flying in East Kalimantan to do some aerial photography when it crashed.”
Authorities discovered the wreckage of the plane at about 2 am in a far off region of East Kalimantan and are carrying out further investigations. The Foreign Affairs Department of Australia said that they are constantly in touch with the concerned Indonesian authorities.
