Violence broke out inside and outside a Sydney court as the judge announced the punishment of the 20 year old man who stabbed a teenager to death. The punishment announced was for a minimum of four years of imprisonment on Friday.

The mother of the victim teenager, Christine Burrows, burst into tears at the time the judge announced the punishment for the murderer of her son, Jay William Cook. She could not control herself from screaming once the verdict was announced. At the same time, someone from the public threw an object at Cook as he stood in the conviction box hearing his formal punishment. Cook had to duck down to avoid the object thrown at him. Justice Peter Garling immediately suspended the session of the court and asked everyone to clear the room.

Outside the court, the agitated and disappointed mother of Todd Burrows spoke to the media and could not stop herself from crying. She said, “He got four years. Mums, that’s what your kids are worth to those arseholes. Four years.” Soon after, a fight erupted between both the opposite parties of the case which was resolved by calling police at the scene to ensure no one was hurt.

Cook had accepted his crime during the course of the case and agreed to killing the 16 year old Todd Burrows by giving him several chest stabs until he was dead during a fight that erupted between the graffiti gangs on the southwestern side of Sydney.
