Finnish police confirmed on Sunday that a 25-year-old British woman working as a seasonal worker at a Christmas holiday attraction in Lapland has been stabbed to death. The women allegedly took children to visit Santa Claus but was found dead later on Saturday. According to Finnish police, the investigation led to a manhunt for the young woman’s 36-year-old Czech boyfriend who was then found suffering from hypothermia deep in the Lapland wilderness but was arrested on Saturday.
It was revealed that the woman’s alleged attacker is believed to have fled before collapsing in the -35C temperatures. The online report published by Lapland’s police confirms that “a homicide occurred on Saturday morning. A 36-year-old man is suspected of having stabbed to death his 26-year-old girlfriend. Both of them were foreign seasonal workers.” The report added that “afterwards, the man fled with their dogs.” However, a Border Guard helicopter helped in the manhunt to locate and arrest the suspect, who was then taken to hospital in Rovaniemi.
Local reports claim that the woman was reportedly working for a tour company named Santa Safari. Lapland becomes home to hundreds of seasonal workers each year during the holiday season as many of the seasonal workers are hired in festive centres catered for tourists who want to visit Santa Claus. A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokeswoman also confirmed that “we are supporting the family of a British national who died in Finland on 3 December.”
