Brodie ClarkU.K. Home Secretary, Theresa May will publish the findings of an investigation into the relaxed border checks during last summer.

U.K. Border Force Chief, Brodie Clark was suspended, and later quit his 40-year career stating that he was at a weak position and was unable to defend himself after the statements that he had relaxed the border checks beyond the authorities attributed to him by ministers. He has admitted using guidance designed for health and safety emergencies to suspend fingerprint checks at the U.K.’s ports, but blamed Mrs. May of accusing him for “political convenience”. Mr. Clark has insisted that he was “no rogue officer” and launched a constructive dismissal case in which he could net £135,000.

The report to be published is by chief inspector of the U.K. Border Agency, John Vine. Mr. Vine has delayed the report and asked for additional time to complete his investigation.

Downing Street has told that Prime Minister, David Cameron had been informed about the report’s findings.

It has been revealed that last autumn, a preliminary scheme to relax passport checks on a number of citizens of EU countries had been used at 28 ports and airports.

Mrs. May has told that she had authorized the reduction of some checks on children from the European Economic Area (EEA), and some extra checks on EEA adults under “limited circumstances”. While, Mr. Clark had relaxed fingerprint checks on non-EEA nationals too, without any ministerial approval.

The House of Commons home affairs committee had produced a report previous month unveiling that it was quite shocking to review the number of times checks had been waived when ports and airports became too busy. The report has claimed this to be the result of inappropriate use of guidance at local level as a management tool instead of an emergency provision.

Shadow immigration minister, Chris Bryant has tweeted: “I’m hearing independent report on #opengate is scathing, ministers and civil servants share the blame. No wonder May hid it under her desk.”
