Car giant Nissan has announced its plans to invest £125m in building newly modeled invitation car in Sunderland plant, creating 2,000 new jobs in U.K. Business leaders have welcomed this decision by Nissan as a “major coup” for the North East.

This project is supported by a £9.3m governmental grant is planned to start from mid-2013. This announcement has come forward as a hope for jobless people specifically related to the manufacturing industry. The new jobs are expected to be created at the site as well as within the supplier firms delivering materials to factory, and the employees at Sunderland will hopefully increase to a record 6,000 for Nissan at Sunderland.

Chamber spokesman, Andrew Sugden has told that the step would boost the local economy.

Business secretary, Vince Cable has greeted the news as a “clear vote of confidence” in the U.K.’s manufacturing industry.

Mr. Cable, who will attend the Geneva Motor Show for the official announcement, has gladly stated that this new move in the field of investment will create jobs at Nissan’s plant as well as the wider supply chain. It also shows that U.K. economy is still capable of attracting the inward investment and this latest announcement is highlighting this fact openly. Japanese car giant, the globally known vehicle manufacturers are beating a path to the U.K.’s door and they stand among several motoring businesses to get conditional offers from the £2.4bn Regional Growth Fund.

Nissan’s Vice President for Manufacturing in the U.K., Kevin Fitzpatrick has told that the plant had strengthened from the last quarter of a decade.

He has further said: “This just reaffirms our position as the biggest car plant in the U.K. It’s something the North East should be proud of.

“We have gone from the smallest plant in the U.K. to the biggest in just 25 years.”

Nissan had produced more than 480,000 vehicles at its Sunderland plant last year, an increased rate of 14 percent than 2010 and a new record for a single U.K. car plant, largely down to the success of its Qashqai models. The Sunderland plant also produces the Juke and Note models.
