Abu QatadaMuslim cleric, Abu Qatada has been bailed from Long Lartin prison after winning the final round of the battle against his extradition to Jordan.

The terror suspect was driven from Long Lartin prison, Worcestershire to return home and get reunited with his family in North West London after spending most of the last 10 years in custody. He could potentially now remain there for the rest of his life.

Qatada, once described as Osama bin Laden’s right-hand in Europe, will have to obey a 16-hour curfew and can only go out between 8am and 4pm. He will also have to wear an electronic tag, cannot use the internet and will be barred from contacting certain people.

Qatada was granted bail on Monday after a U.K. court has ruled he might not get a fair trial if extradited to Jordan to face terrorism charges and that would breach his human rights.

The Special Immigration Appeals Commission (Siac) said that despite assurances from the Arab kingdom, it is not sure that evidence from witnesses who had been tortured would not be included in a retrial in his homeland.

He was convicted of terrorism in Jordan in his absence in 1999. By that time he was already living in Britain after claiming asylum after arriving on a fake passport.

A European Court of Human Rights ruling prevented him being thrown out of Britain earlier this year.

Home Secretary, Mrs. May expressed her deep dissatisfaction regarding the decision.

The Government is appealing the latest court ruling on the basis that Siac applied the wrong legal test.

The Prime Minister’s spokesperson has said: “We had received a number of assurances from the Jordanian government – they had even changed their constitution.”

Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg has added: “We are absolutely determined to see this man get on a plane and go back to Jordan, he does not belong here.

“He wanted to inflict harm on our country and this coalition Government is going to do everything we can to challenge this every step of the way to make sure that he is deported.”
