The Toronto police were informed about vandalism at a war memorial few hours after Remembrance Day services, which the department is now actively investigating. The incident occurred at the Victory Peace war memorial in Coronation Park, at Lake Shore Blvd. and Strachan Ave.

Reports claim that the vandals wrote oblivious statement saying, “Canada will burn praise Allah” in capital letters above all the signings on the memorial. The statement has allegedly been written with black marker. The notorious act of vandalism was reported late on Sunday by someone walking through the park.

Police has declared that proper action has been taken and city officials are going to erase the vandalism, as a worker already reaches the scene on late Sunday for cleaning the graffiti. The Past President and Current Treasurer of the Royal Canadian Legion #11, Gord Pearce, stated that “I think it’s sick.” He asserted that “most of the people have died. This is what it’s all about. This is what memorials are there for.”

The vandalized bronze monument has been a land mark since its installation in the mid-1990s by sculptor John McEwen. McEwen spoke about the incident during a phone interview, stating that “It’s stupid vandalism in the sense that anyone who looked at the memorial would have seen it was a specific kind of memorial.” “It recognized the 50th anniversary of the Second World War. The outcome of that war is today’s many languages spoken in Toronto.” Police said they do not have any suspects, and asked that witnesses call police or Crime Stoppers.
