U.K. Chancellor, George OsborneU.K. Chancellor George Osborne has announced to reach an agreement with seven Whitehall departments on spending cuts of up to 10 percent as part of a drive to cut £11.5bn of public spending.

But Mr. Chancellor ix left with only 29 days to find savings of £8bn to shrink the national budget deficit.

Mr. Osborne has said that cuts made in the spending review will ensure that money is available for the NHS and infrastructure projects in line with public demand.

Energy, justice and communities are among those departments that have agreed to substantial budget reductions as part of Mr. Osborne’s goal of cutting £11.5bn from public spending for the 2015-16 financial year. The spending review will be done on June 26.

Most government departments were warned in March to expect a 10 percent reduction in funding, although this was expected to give the Treasury room for flexibility.

The final cuts could amount to 8 to 9 percent once negotiations have been concluded.

Mr. Osborne has said that the cuts would help the government in minimizing the deficit and spend money where “the public wants it spent”.

The Labour party is of the view that the government is still following the policies “that are badly failing”.

Mr. Osborne has told that no chancellor had got so far in agreeing so many plans so far ahead of a spending review, which is due towards the end of next month.

Defence Secretary Philip Hammond has earlier warned the Treasury that the armed forces cannot take more large-scale spending cuts to the Ministry of Defence.

Mr. Osborne has said that negotiations over savings are in process with the MoD and the Home Office, but he said that any action would not be directed to put at risk people’s safety “at home or abroad”.
