Queen has stripped Chris Huhne’s ex-wife Vicky Pryce of her status attributed in 2009 as Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in recognition of her contribution as head of the Government economic service, after her conviction for swapping speeding penalty points with ex-husband.
The high-flying economist and her ex-husband Chris Huhne were both jailed in March for eight months for swapping speeding penalty points to avoid a driving ban on the husband.
Mr. Huhne left his then wife, Pryce in 2010 as his scandal with PR adviser Carina Trimingham was about to be disclosed.
During the court trial of the former couple, it had been revealed that Ms. Pryce had leaked the speeding points scandal to newspapers in 2011 to seek revenge from her ex-husband.
After the guilty plea, Mr. Huhne resigned from the Cabinet and was charged with perverting the course of justice, and later quit as a Liberal Democrat MP and privy councillor.
During the two trials, Ms. Pryce had admitted to have taken Huhne’s points, but adopted a defence of marital coercion, claiming he had made her sign a form he had already completed in her name.
An announcement published in the London Gazette states: “The Queen has directed that the appointment of Vicky, Mrs. Pryce, to be a Member of the Civil Division of the Third Class, or Companion, of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, dated June 13 2009, shall be cancelled and annulled and that her name shall be erased from the Register of the said Order.”
Whitehall’s Forfeiture Committee – the committee to decide whether stripping of honor from the individuals in exceptional circumstances, chaired by civil service head Sir Bob Kerslake, recommended taking the award away from Ms. pryce after deciding the system would be brought into disrepute if she was allowed to keep the honour.
The Prime Minister passed the advice on to the Queen, who gave final approval over the step.
