USA: Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…Four males who committed a violent robbery in Camden have been jailed for a combined total of 23 years.
Chandra Kelly, aged 22, of Windermere Avenue, N3, was sentenced to seven years imprisonment;
Chisom Eriken aged 18, of Ballards Lane, N12 was sentenced to six years imprisonment;
Ali Shahali, aged 18, of Ballards Lane, N12 was sentenced to five years imprisonment;
A 17-year-old male was sentenced to five years imprisonment.
All were sentenced yesterday (11 November) at Southwark Crown Court.
Chandra Kelly was found guilty of robbery on Wednesday, 20 October following a trial at Blackfriars Crown Court. The remaining defendants pleaded guilty to robbery in July, at the same venue.
The incident took place on Friday, 23 April 2010, in Fordwych Road, NW2. At approximately 16:35 hours, the victim, a 33-year-old fork lift truck driver, was in his front garden when he was accosted by Eriken, Shahali and the 17-year-old male.
The victim was forced into his home and subjected to a violent assault, during which he was beaten and slashed three times with a kitchen knife, taken from his own kitchen. During the assault, the males were shouting: "Where’s the stash….where’s the girls."
The three defendants stole two lap tops and a games console, before making off in a waiting vehicle, driven by Chandra Kelly.
Police attended and the victim was taken by ambulance to a central London hospital where he was treated for serious injuries, including a severed tendon in his right hand. He has recently returned to work but has been left with permanent scarring to both arms.
Detectives from Camden’s Robbery Squad conducted a thorough investigation and the defendants were promptly identified and arrested on Tuesday, 27 April at an address in Ballards Lane, N12.
Enquires revealed that the victim’s house was targeted because it had historically been used as a brothel, before being closed by Camden Police.
DC Ben Tallick, from Camden’s Robbery Squad, said: "This appeared to be a pre-planned robbery at an address the convicted persons assumed was still a brothel. It quickly transpired however, it was in fact the home of an innocent member of the public. This did not deter them and they went on to assault and rob their victim in his own home. I would like to thank the members of the public who assisted with this investigation as without them, none of this would have been possible.
"I am pleased to see them imprisoned and hope this reassures the victim and the community that we are dedicated to bringing perpetrators of robbery to justice."
