An article published by the Daily Telegraph article reported UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, assuring to fulfil a promise to expand on a prior manifesto pledge to convert failing and coasting schools into academies. In his remarks, Mr Cameron stated that Government will soon recruit more academy sponsors in order to back head teachers and allow thousands more schools to break free of council control.

According to Cameron, the pledge resides at the heart of his One Nation vision and his party would relentlessly press on with public-sector reform as Labour squabbled over its future. He vowed that a future Conservative government would deliver “real social mobility” and that it will “not waste a second in getting on with the job.” Furthermore, Cameron stressed that he “profoundly believed” academy schools were the right way forward and praised the last Labour government for coming up with the idea.

PM Cameron pointed out that “that is why in the first 100 days we have brought forward legislation to transform all failing schools into academies, and for the first time taken the power to convert coasting schools into academies too.” However, he pointed out that “we have also seen how these freedoms can help all schools, with more than 3,000 good and outstanding schools already making the decision to become academies themselves,” adding that “so, when Labour leadership contenders say they want to phase out academies, I say the opposite.” Cameron concluded that “I want every school in the country to have the opportunity to become an academy and to benefit from the freedoms this brings.”
