In order to enhance the IT and telecommunications structure of the country, the Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has signed the new TV Pay Bill in to law. This law is bound to create competition with international agencies investing in the country and also raise a competition amongst the existing big names of the television industry.
The government’s aim behind this is to enhance the presence of Pay TV and make it affordable for the general public, in terms of costs and availability. Presently, only the major cities of Brazil are enjoying this service. It has been reported that there are around 600,000 requests for the launch of Pay TV in small towns and cities.
Before the bill was signed in to a law, all Brazilian internet companies had to collaborate with existing television channels to add television to their list of covered services that included telephone and television. However, now the companies can offer their own Pay TV services in addition to mobile and landline as well as internet.
However, the issue that is of concern for the companies is that the minimum requirement to launch the Pay TV include the availability of One-third Brazilian channels along with 2 such stations that boast over 12 hours of broadcast with programming completed in Brazil.
