Four converts to Christianity have been arrested in Iran in, reports an Iranian rights group.

According to the Committee of Human Rights Reporters, Iranian security forces arrested four Christian converts on the 26th and 28th of October.

On Friday, the house of Shahab Samimi was raided and searched by security forces who arrested Samimi, his wife Fariba Karimkhani, and their guest Farshad Rahimdel. The agents also confiscated a computer, books, CDs and a satellite receiver.

Two days later, security agents detained Tehran resident Yaser Mirza Zanjani.

There are still no updates on the fate of the four or the charges against them.

In recent weeks, members of four “house churches” were also arrested in the cities of Kavar and Shiraz in southern Iran.

Even though Iran’s constitution grants “protected” religious minority status to its Christians, in practice, the rights of the community are not always preserved.

Ahmed Shaheed, the United Nations’ special rapporteur on human rights in Iran, recently estimated that based on his investigation, “over 300 Christians have been arbitrarily arrested and detained throughout the country since June 2010.”

“Churches continue to report undue pressure to report membership, in what appears to be an effort to pressure and sometimes even detain converts,” he added.
