Mississauga gas attendant killed after chasing gas thief

A 62 year-old victim has succumbed to his injuries, caused by a fail to remain accident that occurred on Thursday, May 19, 2011. Investigators from the Major Collision Bureau are actively looking for the person involved.

On Thursday, May 19, 2011, at 4:55 p.m., the victim was working at a gas station near Truscott Drive and Southdown Road. At this time, the operator of a gold coloured vehicle was seen to stop shortly before attending the gas station and cover up his licence plates. He then attended the station, pumped some gas and attempted to flee without paying.

The victim tried to confront the driver about the theft, but was struck by the vehicle as it left the scene.

On arrival, police found the victim on the roadway suffering from critical injuries. The victim was taken to a local hospital, and later taken to a Toronto trauma centre. The involved vehicle fled northbound on Truscott Drive and was last seen travelling eastbound on the Queen Elizabeth Way.

Mr. Hashem ATIFEH RAD, a 62 year-old Mississauga resident, succumbed to his injuries on Friday May 20, 2011.

The suspect vehicle is described as a gold colored 4-door sedan. The driver is described as male, black, approximately 20 – 30 years of age.
