Two dead in drinking and driving Calgary accident

A second person has died as a result of a collision late Sunday evening.

At approximately 11:55 p.m., on Sunday, June 5, 2011, a Honda CRV with five occupants was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Stoney Trail when the driver attempted to navigate the ramp to McKnight Boulevard. The vehicle left the roadway and traveled approximately 120 metres, rolling several times.

Two occupants, not restrained by seatbelts, were ejected from the vehicle. Both were transported to hospital, where a 16-year-old female subsequently died of her injuries. A second passenger, who was initially taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, has also died.The victim is a 20-year-old man.

The two remaining passengers were transported to hospital for minor injuries. The driver, an adult male, was uninjured and taken into custody by police at the scene.

Speed and alcohol are factors in this collision and charges are pending against the driver.
