The two suspects were arrested late Friday and early Saturday. Quebec City police is investigating 15 complaints of breaking and entering and four of sexual assault that took place on the nights of Oct. 14 and 15. According to the police, the sexual assault cases will be handed over to the Crown Prosecutor for further evaluation. Meanwhile, the rector of Laval University, Denis Brière, welcomed the arrests and expressed that “it’s excellent news, first and foremost for the victims, then for our female residents, and finally for the university community at large.”

Later a statement issued by Brière mentioned that “we are witnessing the beginning of a wider movement, where different players in society have come together to call for an end to sexual violence.” It was highlighted that in addition to the increased security provided on campus by the university, it still wants to do more. Brière stressed that “we want to part of the exchanges and contribute to the actions to counter all forms of sexual violence.”
