SIU called in after Aurora shooting

The Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate in connection with a shooting incident that occurred in the Town of Aurora.

On Thursday, July 22, 2011, at approximately 8:35 p.m., Uniform Patrol officers and investigators working out of the Hold-Up Unit responded to a robbery in progress at the Bell Store located at 91 First Commerce Drive in the Town of Aurora. Upon arrival, officers confronted three suspects and were attempting to arrest them when an altercation ensued and shots were fired.

As a result of the shooting, one suspect was transported to hospital with a gunshot wound. One police officer, a member of the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit, also sustained non-lifethreatening injuries as a result of a gunshot wound. Both remain in hospital where they are being treated for their injuries.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified and is conducting an investigation into this incident. York Regional Police is conducting a parallel investigation
