District 6 RCMP have concluded their investigation into the death of a 46-year-old man from Sunny Corner, N.B. in January.

The death was originally deemed suspicious, however following an autopsy and investigation by District 6 RCMP and the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit, foul play has been ruled out and no charges will be laid.

On January 5, 2011, at approximately 11:30 p.m., RCMP responded to a 911 call of a semi-conscious man outside a tavern in Sunny Corner. He was taken to hospital in Miramichi and later transported to Moncton Hospital in critical condition. He passed away on January 11, 2011.

The investigation has determined the man was intoxicated and had been asked to leave the bar at one point. He attempted to re-enter the bar after it had closed and was involved in a brief altercation. The investigation shows the man fell down outside the building, striking his head on the ground. An autopsy confirmed that the man died from head injuries consistent with a fall.

The man’s name is not being released at the request of his family.
