Police are investigating a sudden death incident after an Oshawa man was struck by a train and investigators are appealing to the public for additional information.

On Friday August 12, 2011 at approximately 11:50 p.m. officers from Central East Division responded to the railway tracks located near to Crerar Avenue and Baldwin Street in Oshawa for a reported sudden death incident. Employees of a westbound freight train were notified moments earlier by employees of an eastbound freight train of the potential sighting of a body near to the tracks at this location. The westbound train was halted and employees located a deceased male near to the tracks and contacted 9 1 1.

DRPS officers and EMS arrived to scene and located the deceased male lying near to the tracks with obvious signs of trauma. An autopsy was conducted and the victim has been identified as a 46-year-old resident of Oshawa. Officers located and notified the victim’s next of kin. Rail traffic was disrupted for several hours.

DRPS would like to remind the public of the hazards of travelling on or near to any railway tracks.
