According to a latest research it has been recommended that U.S must strive to develop a cyber intelligence. This has been suggested so that it can function as a much more viable and coordinated effort on the government’s part to detect and predict computer-related threats and also how to tackle them. This report has been prepared by the Intelligence and National Security Alliance.

According to the report, the instances of cyber attacks has increased greatly and has surpassed the acceptable limit of intellectual property loss and financial insecurity, not only for the government but the businesses as well. The report also states that the U.S is not adequately equipped to handle such cyber attacks and it needs to do more than merely rely on the “patch and pray procedures” it follows.

INSA has stressed in their report that it is about time that cyber intelligence policies were formed coupled with intelligence sharing amongst government and big businesses along with research on attack attribution and warnings so that the risks can be calculated and deterred.

The report has also warned that since USA has outsourced a major chunk of the maintenance and computer technology to other countries where enemies of the state can easily infiltrate in to the supply chain. While mentioning that there is an increase in threat from other nations, the report has not specified what countries may be involved.

Frances Townsend, head of INSA and former homeland security adviser in the Bush administration has said that “The present situation is as dangerous as if the United States decided to outsource the design of bridges, electrical grids, and other physical infrastructure to the Soviet Union during the Cold War.”
