Toronto Mayor Rob Ford promises to guard libraries and suburban snow-clearing standards while the city strives to balance its books for 2012. Ford says he has never supported branch closings or the removal of a much-treasured service in the suburbs that cleans the snow left by plows at the end of roads.

Ford reportedly said: “I never ever said I was closing a library. I said we are going to find efficiencies. I never said we were going to close libraries and we are not closing libraries. You didn’t hear it from me saying we are going to get rid of windrows. I don’t know what message you are hearing, but it doesn’t come from me.”

Accompanied by his team of untied city councillors, Ford sacked rumors of disagreement among his inner circle and latest ballot that shows his popularity fading away.

He said: “The executive is here because they want to be here. The only poll that matters is at election time. I know that we are doing the right thing.”

Ford also refused to point out other service cuts he would resist among the long list given by the city administrator. He says, “We are obviously going to discuss it. We are going to have to debate it. We are going to have a vote.”
