Air Canada disputes continue as the maintenance firm workers block streets after Aveos closed down operations in three cities. Workers have blocked the main road leading to Air Canada’s head office on Monday.

Several Air Canada seniors tried to enter the head office Monday morning but over 200 protesters successfully stopped them to do so. In order to avoid any unfavorable events, Montreal police was called to the scene. The police did not seem comfortable providing additional details to the media as yet.

Montreal aircraft repair firm Aveos Fleet Performance Inc. has almost 1,800 employees, who were told to go home at 5:30 p.m. Sunday and advised to take their belongings with them.

Air Canada and Aveos are bound by an agreement in which Aveos is responsible of performing Air Canada’s heavy maintenance tasks until 2013; however, the staff has been more and more worried about the prospects of that contract after next year.

The staff was made to choose between the two companies last July in a dense transfer agreement. Last week, Aveos suddenly stopped making contributions to its employee pension plan. Tensions have been increasing between the human resources of the two companies. A few years ago, Aveos was sold off by Air Canada in order to finance its debts.
