The Vancouver Police want to take this opportunity to remind people of a scam that we’ve talked about many times in the past.
Recently, we’ve received a few complaints from residents in the Strathcona, Commercial Drive, Kitsilano, and Fairview neighbourhoods that someone has been going door-to-door pretending to canvass for the Canadian Diabetes Association.
The callers describe the fake canvasser as a middle-aged Aboriginal man who holds a clip board with a bunch of papers in an effort to appear legitimate.
He will ask for money for the charity and then leave after issuing what may be phoney receipts.
We have contacted the Canadian Diabetes Association and they have confirmed that they do not do any door-to-door canvassing.
We want to remind everyone that charities don’t collect cash when their canvassers go door-to-door and they should have proper identification and credentials prominently displayed and available upon request.
If you have concerns if someone suspicious comes to your door, lock the door and call police.
